On February 28, 1922, the British declared limited independence on Egypt. The British were entitled to control the most significant things such as Cotton trade and the Suez Canal. Therefore, the British still held control over Sudan, and still maintained its rightful place as leader of Egypt. Egypt protested in 1919 for their independence. This is known in Egypt as the "1919 revolution". Egypt fought well throughout the spring. In 1920, Britain declared that Egypt report back to London and get a definitive treaty. upon return, the British declared limited independence on Egypt, but still held the right to govern certain duties in the country, such as trade of the cash crop, known as cotton, and balance economic wealth.
